Dr. Christian J. Flickner grew up on the Monterey Peninsula. He attended the Washington Union School District and then Palma High School. He graduated from California State University, Sacramento in 2001 with a degree in biology. He graduated cum laude from the Southern California College of Optometry in 2005. His areas of interest and expertise are family eyecare, ocular health, and pathology. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, the California Optometric Association, and the Monterey Bay Optometric Society. He is the oldest son of Dr. James L. Flickner and has been a talented addition to the practice since 2005.
Dr. Jennell Bockenstedt grew up in Strawberry Point, Iowa. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in biomedical in 2001. She graduated from Southern California College of Optometry in 2005. She wrote her thesis on High Order Aberration and is interested in pediatric optometry. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the California Optometric Association, and the Monterey Bay Optometric Society.
Dr. James L. Flickner graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1971 and the Southern California College of Optometry in 1975. In addition to family eyecare, his areas of expertise include Low Vision examination and treatment, fitting challenging contact lens prescriptions, and Sports Vision. He is a long-standing member of the American Optometric Association, the California Optometric Association, and the Monterey Bay Optometric Society. In recent years he has been an international speaker on the for Vistakon (maker of Acuvue contacts), Essilor of America (maker of Varilux progressive lenses), and Optos (maker of the Optomap retinal scanner).
Dr. Shadi Salsabilian grew up in Santa Cruz, California. She graduated from the University of California, Irvine in 2015 with a degree in Biological Sciences. She then went on to graduate from Southern California College of Optometry. She is interested in specialty contact lenses and family eye care. She speaks two languages: Farsi and English. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Monterey Bay Optometric Society.
Dr. Emmeline Jang grew up in the Bay Area, starting off in Sunnyvale but graduating from high school in Pleasanton. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in Molecular and Cell Biology with an emphasis in Neurobiology. She also did research while working for the Dean of the UC Berkeley School of Optometry, studying treatment options for amblyopia in adults. She moved across the country and graduated from the State University of New York, College of Optometry in 2014 and worked in NYC before moving back home to the Bay Area in 2017. Her areas of interest include family eyecare, ocular health, and slowing down the progression of nearsightedness in children with myopia management. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the California Optometric Association, and the Alameda Contra Costa Counties Optometric Society. She speaks three languages: fluent in English and Korean, proficient in Spanish. She is excited to start a new chapter in her life serving Monterey County, which is the home town to her husband and his family members.
Deanna Hinojosa graduated from Alisal High School. Deanna has worked at Peninsula Eye Care since 2001 as a Dispensing Optician. Deanna is a Certified Paraoptometric Assistant and Certified Contact Lens Technician. She is a member of the paraoptometric sections of the California Optometric Association and the National Contact Lens Examiners. Deanna's specialty areas in the office are low vision and contact lenses. She completed The Vision Care Institute, LLC staff readiness and contact lens program in 2008.
Jennifer Aday Gordon graduated from Seaside High School. Jennifer has worked for Peninsula Eye Care since 1998 as an Optician. Jennifer is an Optometric Assistant and is a member of the California Optometric Association. Jennifer completed Primary Eyecare Network staff education on lens designs and materials. Jennifer is a certified Transition lenses specialist. Jennifer’s specialty areas in the office are frame fitting, adjustments, lens selection and patient care.
